At Instructurecon 2024, OTLT staff took part in and moderated a panel on Canvas Catalog. Locally known as UI Learn, Canvas Catalog is an online portal for non-credit courses available to both the public and the University of Iowa community. Instructurecon is an annual conference organized by Instructure, the company that creates Canvas.
“These conferences give us an opportunity to present how the University of Iowa uses instructional technology to other institutions and to establish ourselves as leaders because we are sharing our knowledge, experiences, and lessons learned so others can come away with a better understanding of the technology,” explains Emily McKeag, senior IT support consultant in OTLT.
The presentation, “Canvas Catalog Unveiled: Perspectives from Big Ten Institutions” was a panel discussion in collaboration with the University of Maryland and the University of Michigan, Deerborn. They shared how each school approaches implementing, customizing, and supporting Canvas Catalog. Nearly 60 participants from institutions across the country attended the session.
“We've been working with this technology for a few years and have developed strategies and workflows to get people started with it, and the presentation helped me to see how new this is to many schools. I did enjoy getting to learn more about how other schools manage Canvas Catalogue,” says Holly Soboroff, senior IT support consultant in OTLT.
