The University of Iowa offers a range of captioning services to support all needs on campus. We provide automatic speech recognition (ASR) captions through UICapture, producing quick and efficient captions generated by AI. We also offer two professional captioning services, 3Play Media and Cielo24, for those who are seeking human-reviewed and high-accuracy captions. Professional captions are ideal for meeting accessibility standards and providing reliable captioning, transcriptions, and audio description for all users. Getting Started with Professional Captioning
Before submitting individual videos for captioning, ensure that your department or campus group has created an account with the selected professional captioning service. There is no centralized billing service for professional captions. Individual departments or groups on campus will be responsible for the costs associated with these services.
3Play Media Captioning
To get started with 3Play Media, fill out the provided form to create a department or campus group account. Once the form has been submitted, 3Play Media will work with you to set up your account using your HawkID login, provide onboarding, and help answer all of your questions. You can order captions directly through your 3Play Media account or through UICapture.
Cielo24 Captioning - Coming Soon!
Cielo24 services are nearly ready for use and should be available before summer.
To get started with Cielo24, complete the request form to create a department or campus group account. After completing the account form, you can get started by using the resources and guides provided by Cielo24. You can order captions directly through your Cielo24 account or through UICapture.
Live Captioning Services
CART (Communication Access Realtime Translation) captions offer real-time transcription of spoke words into text, ensuring accessibility for live events and lectures. At the University of Iowa, CART captions are provided by 2020Captioning.
