Creating a Bubble Sheets Assignment

Create a Bubble Sheets Assignment

  1. In your ICON course click Assignments, then +Assignments in the top right. 
  2. Add the Assignment Name and details (description, points, etc.).
  3. For Submission Type select External Tool.
  4. Click the Find button.
  5. Scroll to Gradescope and click on it. 
  6. In the Link Resource from External Tool window, click A new Gradescope assignment and click Link Assignment. 
  7. Select Bubble Sheet and click Next. 
  8. Name the assignment. 
  9. For "Who will Upload Submissions?" select Instructor. 
  10. Click Create Assignment
  11. On the new screen, click Select
  12. Scroll down and click Save. This will open the Gradescope dashboard. 

Create an Answer Key

  1. In your Gradescope assignment, click on the Edit Answer Key on the left side navigation bar.
  2. Create your answer key.
  3. Designate different point values as needed. 
  4. If you have multiple version, click +Add Version at the top. Up to 5 different versions can be made. 
  5. Once you are done, click Save Answer Key. 

Manage Scans

After the students have taken the exam, you can either scan their exams yourself of bring them to the Copy Center to be scanned for you. You will need to have a PDF file(s) of the students' exams. All Bubble Sjeets cam be scanned into one file and Gradescope will split them into separate scans automatically.

  1. In your Gradescope assignment, click on Manage Scans on the left side navigation bar. 
  2. Click Select PDF Files and upload the PDF of the scanned exams.
  3. Click Manage Submissions.

Uncertain Split Points Troubleshooting

Sometimes Gradescope will not be able to split your entire PDF into the correct submissions, you will see a yellow error message stating, "Ready to Create Submissions (Unable to confidently auto-split)." If you encounter this message:

  1. Click Show to expand the pages of your scanned PDF. Scroll down to locate the pages that weren't split accurately. 
  2. Reorder, split, delete, or merge pages as necessary.
  3. Once the submissions have been split correctly, click Create Submissions.

Manage Submissions

  1. In your Gradescope assignment, click on Manage Submissions on the left side navigation bar.
  2. Review that each student is matched correctly. If there are different versions, review that each student is assigned to the correct version.
  3. Click Grades Submissions.

Assigning Submissions Manually 

Sometimes Gradescope is not able to automatically assign a submission to a student and the instructor will need to assign the submission manually. 

  1. Find the submission(s) that has not been assigned to a student. 
  2. Select Enter Student Name and type in the student's name and select the correct student from the dropdown menu.
  3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 until there are no more unassigned submissions.

Grade Submissions

  1. In your Gradescope assignment, click on Grade Submissions on the left side navigation bar.
  2. Gradescope will automatically grade the Bubble Sheets assignments. Instructors can review questions and submissions and make manual edits as needed. 
  3. Review any uncertain marks as they appear. Click either Uncertain Marks at the top of the page or Uncertain Mark for an individual question. 
  4. The uncertain mark will appear along with an image of each attempted answer. Select the correct bubble option for each answer. 
  5. Select Confirm All Marks. 
  6. Click Review Grades.

Review and Publish Grades

  1. In your Gradescope assignment, click on Review Grades on the left side navigation bar.
  2. To allow students to see their scores without sharing which questions they got right or wrong, click Post Grades to ICON.
  3. To allow students to see their graded submission, including which questions they got wrong and what the correct answer was, click Publish Grades.
